Ever Wondered What Is A Tooth Implant Made From?

Apr 15, 2022 | General Dentistry

Dental implants have been around for several decades now and continue to be the gold standard in tooth replacement treatment. But what makes them so special? We discuss what dental implants are made from, how implants can benefit you, and the type of implants treatment we can offer here at Shields Dental & Implant Clinic.

What are dental implants made from?

Titanium has been used to make implants since 1950, when findings proved that implants made from this metal could allow the bone to grow successfully. Since the time of its discovery, titanium has continued to be the most popular material from which to make dental implants. Once it’s placed and the connection between the implant and the jawbone is fortified, implants can provide patients with a fixed and potentially permanent solution to missing teeth.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder that tooth implants are loved by both dentists and patients alike.

Single tooth implant

Single dental implants can be a permanent solution for replacing individual missing teeth, if they are well cared for post-treatment.

Your dental implant will be placed into your jawbone and heals for a period of around 3-6 months before a bespoke crown is screwed in over the top, providing the functional and aesthetic elements of a tooth. The implant itself takes up the role of a tooth root, providing a solid foundation of stability that your jawbone requires to stay healthy and capable of upholding your face’s structure and shape.

With single tooth implants treatment, you can:

Eat properly again

one or two missing teeth are enough to upset how the chewing forces in your mouth are distributed. Replacing missing teeth (particularly back teeth like molars) can significantly improve your chewing function, giving you the opportunity to enjoy a diversity of foods.

Have a full smile again

losing a tooth or teeth that are visible when you smile can have serious repercussions on your emotional wellbeing. Many patients are surprised at how their confidence is transformed once they’ve had dental implants treatment to replace these teeth.

Look after it as you would a real tooth

unlike removable treatments such as dentures, single implants don’t require any special care. When you brush and floss, you can simply just treat the crown over the top like any other tooth in your mouth.

Opt for sedation

we offer 3 different types of sedation for patients who struggle with dental phobia. Sedation is an amazing tool to have at our disposal, as it can completely relax anxious patients, who might otherwise avoid treatment altogether. We offer sedation for all our tooth implant treatments.

‘’Teeth in a Day’’ implants

Yes, you read it correctly. There really is a dental implant treatment called ‘Teeth in a Day’ that does what it says on the tin. Teeth in a Day can provide you with new teeth in a single appointment.

Also called ‘All-on-4’’, Teeth in a Day treatment uses a small number of implants (this can vary between 4-6 depending on the patient’s jawbone health and mouth anatomy) to secure a full arch of teeth in place.

With Teeth in a Day treatment, you can:

Have a new set of teeth in just one appointment

we’re able to place a set of temporary teeth during appointment number 2 (after your consultation appointment) whilst you wait for the implants to heal and your permanent teeth to be made by our dental technician.

Benefit from a better quality of life

Teeth in a Day treatment can bring about a rapid improvement in quality of life for patients who have been living with failing or missing teeth and for patients who have dentures that no longer fit.

Walk out with a new smile after one appointment

whilst you wait for your jaw to heal after implant placement surgery, we can give you a set of temporary teeth to wear, so you won’t have to be without your smile at any stage during the treatment journey. Should we need to remove failing teeth, we will need to wait for the area to heal before your implants are placed, but don’t worry – it’s also possible to provide you with temporary teeth in this scenario.
